Como todos saben, no habrá clases el lunes 8 de abril debido al eclipse solar único en la vida que pasará por Texas. Por favor, recuerden observar prácticas de seguridad como: Solo usar lentes para ver el eclipse calificados como ISO 12312-2. Estos se pueden comprar en línea y en tiendas participantes. (Encontré algunos en Home Depot por $2.) Estos no son iguales a los lentes de sol. Si los lentes para el eclipse se rayan, etc., por favor deséchelos. No los use. Evitar mirar el sol a través de un lente de cámara, telescopio, binoculares, etc., mientras usa lentes para el eclipse o un visualizador solar portátil. (Los rayos solares concentrados quemarán el filtro y causarán lesiones oculares graves.) Si no tiene lentes para el eclipse o un visualizador solar portátil, puede usar un método de visualización indirecto, que no implica mirar directamente al Sol. As you all are aware, there will be no school on Monday, April 8 due to the once in a lifetime solar eclipse traveling through Texas. Please remember to observe safety practices such as: 1. Only wear eclipse viewing glasses rated as ISO 12312-2. These can be purchased online and at participating stores. (I found some at Home Depot for $2.) These are not the same as sunglasses. If your eclipse glasses get scratched, etc... please discard. Do not use. 2. Avoid looking at the sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars, etc...while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer. (The concentrated solar rays will burn through the filter and cause serious eye injury.) 3. If you don’t have eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer, you can use an indirect viewing method, which does not involve looking directly at the Sun. *One way is to use a pinhole projector, which has a small opening (for example, a hole punched in an index card) and projects an image of the Sun onto a nearby surface. With the Sun at your back, you can then safely view the projected image. Do NOT look at the Sun through the pinhole! Southside Elementary STAAR Testing Update! Due to the eclipse and subsequent school closure for 4/8, we will be moving our Reading STAAR test to Thursday, 4/11. Debido al eclipse y al posterior cierre de la escuela 4/8 trasladaremos nuestra puebra STAAR de lectura al 4/11.

It is not just "an eclipse", this will be "THE ECLIPSE" for Texas. Cleveland ISD has decided to close for Monday, April 8th to allow students and staff time to be home with family & friends to experience this once in a lifetime learning opportunity event to make memories, take pictures, make videos together. The next eclipse is not until 2044 and it will be nowhere near Texas. Please remember to follow the recommended safety protocols for properly viewing the solar eclipse.
